Three Drawer Desk
This three drawer desk was an interesting commission to work with. And that would be because of the lady who commissioned it.
She was an older lady who came to my market stall one Sunday morning. She had absolutely no intention of commissioning a piece of furniture that day. However, she commissioned the piece because she was inspired by what she saw. My work, I believe, and the quality that it is being the main ingredient of that inspiration.
What I found most interesting about her was she knew exactly what was going on back in the 2020s, and that it is a total con. She is one of the few older people I did meet who had a fearlessness that is sadly missing now.
Four timber species are used for this piece. The timbers you can see are Silky Oak, Melaleuca and Brush Box. I cut the brush box personally. It was actually a dead standing tree that I cut down and processed myself. It’s a beautiful timber with a very tight grain structure, but still very workable. The fourth timber is Crows Ash which is used for the drawer runners.
The lady who commissioned the piece said that she wrote a lot and wanted something nice to write on. I think this three drawer desk fits the bill, and I hope she’s still enjoying it.
