Sufferance

Sufferance

The making of this sculpture Sufferance was, by a long way, the hardest and most physically challenging I’ve ever made so far.

The whole process took about four weeks, and that’s because the timber is so hard. It’s made from Grey Gum which is about as hard as wood gets. In fact I describe it as organic concrete because it’s so hard, and very much like this wood too.

The name of the piece is Sufferance, however it is affectionately known as Spiney McBrainhead.

It is a surrealist interpretation of what sufferance in servitude is, or at least can be.  There are many subtleties in the piece.  Subtleties like the back being far straighter than normal, and the head tilted forward.  Very much like bowing, like someone bowing their head.

It has been described as being quite macabre, and maybe it is, but you get that sometimes.

I did try and sell it, but at the time I was living in Queensland.  It would be easy to say that I was living in the wrong state for selling art, and that would be true.  But I have had conversations about this with many other artists, and the common agreed truth seems to be that we are living in the wrong country. You see in Australia, it seems to be the opinion that if there is no chance of any piece of art increasing in value, then it’s not worth buying.  It is just a commodity.  That might explain why I’ve still got, well never sold, my sculptures.

Getting back to the story of this sculpture Sufferance and it’s inspiration, I am drawn back to something that I have pointed out on another post in here somewhere.  In fact there are many other posts here with commentary of some kind or another.

I have lived most of my life in Australia. During that time it has become painfully clear that the vast majority of the population are already living an existence that can only be described as servitude. I couldn’t put a number on it exactly, but there are too many living a life of sufferance in servitude at the hands of commercial banks.

Historically speaking, it wasn’t that long ago that a family could afford the house and land that they lived on. And afford to the point of having disposable income at the end of the week. Now, that has all changed for the worse. It’s not because prices of things have increased, it’s not because bricks have gotten more expensive or that land has become so rare that the price has naturally increased with scarcity. No, it is none of those things. It is singularly that banks want more profit. That’s it.

The entire continent of Australia is living a life of sufferance at the hands of commercial banks. Even during the financial crisis starting around 2008, Australian banks continued to make record profits. Not just profits, record profits.

And the funny thing is, it’s all about to get much much worse.

Do you remember the WEF stating that in the future you will own nothing, and apparently you’re going to be happy about it, well, either way if you do or don’t, read on.

As this planet careens down the self destructive path of chicken little climate induced suicide, I would like to point out who it is exactly that’s driving the bus off the cliff.

Larry Fink – Finance, Blackrock, Multi Billionaire.

Mike Bloomberg – Finance, Bloomberg, Multi Billionaire

Mark Carney – Banker, Works for Mike Bloomberg.  He also serves as the UN Special Envoy for Climate Action and Finance

Jamie Dimon – Finance, Banker, Multi Billionaire

Bill Gates – Multi Billionaire, Wanker

All of these people are the ones whom are making the decisions about the “environment”. Can you see the problem?. I sincerely hope you can. Seriously, ask yourself, did these people become as rich as they are because they love the environment so much? Or maybe it’s because they’re exactly like the bankers in Australia, and don’t give a fuck about you or anyone else for that matter.

Hmmm, I’m going with – They DO NOT give a fuck about you.  And all of the available evidence indicates that, not only is that true, but the sufferance in servitude is also going to continue.
